Tensions
2023
Mixed media, stretched fabric over 3D printed structures, pine
Tensions is reinterpretation of the Canvas series (2019), which was initially inspired by the upholstery technique of tufting. These wall-mounted, mixed media studies consider form, proportion, and composition through the relationships created between each frame. They are created with a traditional framework for two-dimensional art – each form is placed in a frame made from solid wood. However, they create compositions with their arrangements, guiding the viewer to consider the various implications of orientation and formalism. While the fabric is directly representative of being under tension, the act of placing the fabric under tension also reveals a sort of emergence – a pressure on becoming – a reveal. With each piece being monochromatic, they are just as much about what the individual color provides as they are about what the absence of multi-color relationships can do to our perception of a piece.
Canvas
2019-2020
The Canvas series is the result of open ended exercises which focus on manipulating the expected through a series of simple gestures. These canvases are driven by my fascination with materials and minimalist expression. The simplicity in design of these pieces allow me to carefully focus on composition and color choices. I aim to create subtle moments of intrigue with the most minute details.
